I’m just back from the NZIPP InFocus Conference for 2012, a conference dedicated to helping professional photographers improve their photography and develop their business. The seminar covers a wide range of topics that changes every year, this year it covered ideas on how to grow your business, planning for retirement, backing up your images (see my article on backups here), as well as the keynote speakers Peter Coulson (Melbourne) speaking about high end fashion photography and Marcus Bell (Brisbane) on wedding photography.

Peter Coulson’s an amazing creative fashion and advertising photographer, some of the works he does is pretty out there. If you want to check out something great take a look at Xander in the video section of his website, he knocked the video up in a few hours as a personal project after doing the photos for a client. Peter gave us some tips on studio lighting, Photoshop, and was a really entertaining, knowledgeable speaker.
Marcus Bell was the highlight of the conference for me, a wedding photographer consistently rated among the top in the world. He shared a different way of thinking about and approaching weddings with us, I learned some techniques that will help us create even better for our customers.
The conference has re-inspired and reinvigorated me, I’m raring to go and can’t wait to create fantastic photos for all my customers this summer 🙂 We limit the number of weddings we photograph each summer so we can provide all our couples with great service and quick turnaround times, but we’d take two or maybe three more couples for the summer 2012-2013 season.
