Welcome to the Wild Photography blog! We’re professional NZIPP qualified wedding photographers based in Wellington, working all over the lower North Island. We photograph around thirty weddings each year and love every minute of it!

We use our blog to share wedding tips, general updates, announcements, some personal photos, and a few photos from each wedding are usually posted within 48 hours of the wedding. Please use the category links on the right hand side of the page to select just wedding photos, wedding tips, family photos, etc, or click the “Wild Photography Blog” link at the top of any page to see everything. Comments on the photos are very welcome, just click “comments” at the bottom of any entry :)

We were happy and honored to be asked to provide photos for a feature in Engaged Wedding Magazine’s July issue, even getting our photo of Anna onto the front cover! You can read the magazine and see our photos on their website. Photos from a few of our recent weddings were spread across 30 pages.

We also just found out that we were the runner-up in a local wedding photo competition run by the Kapiti Mana Times newspaper, and we didn’t even enter! Anna sent in the photo of herself and Graeme in a field in Martinborough, which you can see here on our blog. Thanks for entering us Anna!

A New Sample Album!

3 September 2010

We’ve just gotten a new sample album back from Queensberry, this one a duo album in brown micro leather, it looks awesome! We’ve made around seventy albums for our customers in the past few years, so it’s about time we put a picture of one up for everyone to see. Here’s a quick snap of the new album in our back yard.

Click the link below the first image to see some more photos of the album.

I’m a member of the Digital Wedding Forum, an international group of photographers who share experience, ideas, encouragement, help educate each other, and help each other out. Some of the most well known wedding photographers in the world are on the DWF, and it’s amazing to be able to learn from the best in the field every day, from the comfort of my office! As well as educational videos, forums, and conferences, the DWF has a blog which has some interesting articles.

I recently read an article called It’s a Big Deal to your Clients. The gist of it is even if I photograph one or two weddings a week in summer it shouldn’t just be “a day at the office” for me. It’s someone special day, a day they’ve been thinking about, planning, and dreaming about for years, and the photographer should be giving 100%

This is why I go into every wedding the same way I would expect a photographer to go into my own wedding: well rested, motivated, fully prepared, and trying to take the best photos of my career. You deserve nothing less than my best!

Late last year I photographed “Captain Jack Sparrow”, my friends Jack Russell Terrier puppy, as a gift for her fiancĂ©e (now husband). Anyone who’s owned a Jack Russell Terrier will know that these dogs just don’t stop moving! Around half of the photos were thrown away because in the split second between when I framed the photo and hit the shutter he’d moved about three feet! I was laying on the ground holding a camera, with remote triggered lights, Jack thought that was a great game and that both the camera and the photographer were fun to lick!

We spend about an hour taking photos of Jack, he had a great time with so many people paying him attention, playing with him, feeding him, and we even managed to take some photos while we were entertaining him! Here are a few of my favorites.

Rosie and Mike were married on a slightly rainy but otherwise fantastic Saturday at St Peter and Pauls Catholic Church in Lower Hutt, with their reception at the Tea Gardens at the old museum. The whole day was just fantastic, everyone was happy and having a great time, and we managed to dodge the rain to get some fantastic photos. Here are some of my favorites from their wedding day.

New prices and packages

12 March 2010

It’s been a few years since we modified our prices or packages, since then our costs have risen significantly, so last night we sat down and made some changes. Prices have gone up a little, but all our albums now come with your choice of cover, including leather, and are available in matted or magazine style for no extra charge. Our top package now includes two photographers, and the mid-range packages include one photographer and an assistant.

Anyone who’s already sent an inquiry through has a week from today to book at the old prices, otherwise the new package prices apply. All new inquiries are at our new prices, which are still great value for one of the best photographers in Wellington!

As always we’re happy to create custom packages to suit you, and last minute packages are available, so if you don’t see what you like just give us a call!

Anna & Graeme were married last Saturday at the lovely Bracken Ridge in Martinborough. The fantastic weather we had at Boomrock the day before followed us, it was as nice a day as you could imagine. The whole day was great fun, Anna & Graeme, their wedding party, and everyone there was relaxed and very friendly, making the day about as easy for us as a wedding can be!

Here’s a small selection of photos from their day, it was so hard to narrow them down, there are too many great photos to choose from!

Latasha & Mike were married at the stunning Boomrock, in the Ohariu Valley in Wellington. The day before their wedding you could barely see your hand in front of your face as the fog and mist rolled in from the ocean, but on their wedding day it was just perfect, with blue skies and just enough of a breeze to keep people cool. Latasha, Mike, and their wedding party were lovely, fun, fantastic people to take photos of, we had a blast taking their photos!

There are so many great photos from their wedding it’s hard to choose which ones to put up! Here are some of my favorites.
